The Art of Travelling (wisely!)

March 15, 2016

Holiday of a lifetime, or a lifetime of holidays? At OtterBox we believe that it is all about balance. At times, nothing’s going to make your trip more than that absolute attention to detail. But occasionally, a simple hotel with great reviews serves its purpose, because the love of travel and the open road of discovery is really what it’s all about.

And that’s why we’ve rounded up our favourite apps to help you with your travel plans and journeys, making travel and the logistics that go along with it, just as easy!

So if you’re looking for a good reason to travel more often, to destinations you might not even have on your radar yet, here it is. Lovely, easy to use apps to lighten the load when it comes to holiday booking. Now, what are you waiting for, grab your phone and start your research!

Search for specific destinations and dates and Skyscanner searches thousands of airlines for the cheapest fares. It’s also the best app for flexible travel allowing you to search for the cheapest flights to any destination from your departure airline.

Easy to use, the guest reviews are helpful, it’s informative for a first-timer to make travel plans, and it has great content. What are most informative are the reviews!

As soon as you’ve booked your trip, you need one place to store all those email confirmations, reviews, packing lists and recommendations from friends. Evernote syncs with ease between devices that might get damaged in transit and you can then use it at your destination to upload photos to remind yourself of exactly how you spent all that extra time you used to spend juggling pieces of paper.

Of late, when navigating the maze of London’s underground network using more ‘traditional’ apps, commuters were met with confused looks and asked: “Oh, have you not heard of Citymapper?” Citymapper is redefining city travel and is available in  30 top cities worldwide, offering you various ways to navigate around without any stress or fuss.

XE Currency

XE is the go-to site for currency conversions on the web, so it’s no surprise that its app is also just as popular. For the traveller it is most useful for the simple fact that it’s able to convert every world currency. It also operates offline by saving the last updated rates, which is great if you’re in a place with limited connectivity or trying to save on data.

Google Translate

This translator can be a useful tool to support your own, more serious language learning, but realistically, it’s most useful on a practical level quickly translating day-to-day words you come across on your travels.
