The first major Tech event of 2016 took place last week with the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) hosting over 3,600 companies and exhibitors in Las Vegas, Nevada.

To help you keep on top of the latest news, here are some of the biggest announcements and updates from CES 2016!


Netflix chief Reed Hastings thrilled fans around the world with the announcement that Netflix’s streaming service would be expanding to 130 new countries.Those in attendance were treated to a Q&A with Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones), Will Arnett (Arrested Development) and Wagner Moura (Narcos) to discuss current and upcoming series on Netflix.

Human Sized Drone

Drone’s have taken the world by storm over the past few years and CES 2016 didn’t disappoint. The Ehang 184 is an autonomous drone that can carry a single for 23 minutes with speeds of up to 100 kmh. We’re not too far away from jumping into our drone and picking up our shopping.

Oculus Rift

 Virtual Reality Pace-setters Oculus VR released their long-awaited VR headset, the Oculus Rift, on Wednesday, January 6th. The device sold out immediately despite a $599 price tag. Oculus VR, which was purchased by Facebook for $2bn in March 2014, has been releasing development and beta kits to its fan base for testing since 2012.  Television technology is moving beyond 4K resolution with the development of HDR (High-Dynamic Range) imaging expected to make even more of a difference to picture quality. HDR-enabled screens can show millions more colours and several more shades of brightness between black and white than normal displays. Samsung, LG, Sony and Panasonic all announced that they will be releasing TVs which will qualify for the new HDR standard.
