Apple announced a range of new devices last month including the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus as well as the iPad Pro. With these new devices comes a new operating system. We’ve taken a look at the main new features of iOS9. Here’s what you need to know!
iOS 9 aims to relieve the frustrations of patchy Wi-Fi by seamlessly switching to over to mobile data whenever there is a poor connection. This allows you to continue using streaming apps such as Spotify and Netflix without being interrupted by a drop in signal strength. Depending on your data plan this is either AMAZING or a bit of a pain! To turn off your Wi-Fi assist simply visit Settings > Cellular > Wi-Fi Assist and select Off.
When you move to iOS9 you’ll notice that your Passbook app is now “Wallet”. This revamped app allows you to store your credit and debit cards in order to use “Apple Pay”. Apple Pay has been a big success in the US and it’s slowly making its way to Europe (Launched in the UK this July).
New and Improved “Proactive” Siri
With iOS9, your device will learn user habits and act on that information based on the time of day and your location. For example, the search screen will display suggested apps, nearby places of interest, and useful news stories all depending on what time it is and where you are. Just swipe left from your home screen to check this new feature out!
Apple Maps has been lagging behind Google Maps ever since its controversial introduction in 2012. However, the latest version shows signs of steady progress with the integration of public transit information for a number of cities including Berlin and London.
